Oceanographic
Solutions

Dr. Conor Smith studied Applied Marine Physics at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science. His research focused on coastal ocean surface current measurements from spaceborne radar, ADCP current measurements, and numerical hindcast modeling.

He learned, and applied, the fundamentals of bathymetry mapping, ADCP current measurements, RTK GPS systems, as well as gained experience deploying AUVs, UUVs, and UAVs.

Conor blends theory with years of practical sea-going knowledge and is able to design and plan projects to meet client’s varied goals.

Oceanographic and Riverine data collection, at one point or another, does not go according to plan. It is at these times when Conor’s unique background is most useful, from troubleshooting instruments to “macgyver-ing” creative solutions. He travels with an extensive, but compact, toolkit that allows him to repair, re-build, or assemble the instruments, mounting assemblies, or sometimes, the boat that the equipment is attached to. Electrical technician skills are required for the capable Oceanographer.

Successfully collecting data is only part of the deliverable. The next is bringing the data to life. With thoughtful investigation and the ability to use cutting edge tools, deep insight into the physical world is gained.
